Trailers for Dante Lam's action thriller 'Sniper' starring Edison Chen

I get weak in the knees when it comes to films with snipers. I don't know what it is but you sit me down in front of a film with snipers in it and I'll shut off for the duration of said film. While I cannot say that I have been a big fan of Dante Lam's films his next one, due out on April 12th, features oodles and oodles of them.

Ming (Richie Jen) is renowned as the top shooter in the police force. However things get complicated after the release of his former teammate and superb marksman Ching (Huang Xiao Ming) from prison. With only vengeance on his mind, Ching wants to take on Ming and the police, believing that they are the ones who put him in jail. When a mysterious sniper sabotages a high-security prisoner transfer and a convict escapes, Ming and his team are despatched to profile the suspect. Believing that Ming had withheld key evidence that could free him, Ching decides to lure his target in by holding Ming’s daughter as hostage and re-enacting that fateful day. It is the ultimate showdown amongst three expert snipers in the Hong Kong cityscape… via 24FPS

The arrival of this film has been a long time coming, news surfaced back in 2007, but the financial woes of MediaAsia and the infamous sex scandal surrounding one of the leads, Edison Chan, resulted in the release date being pushed back. And with the announcement of a release date came another trailer. We have two of them after the break. Let's play a game shall we? Let's play: Name that Hollywood film influence. I'll start. I see the elevator scene Die Hard With a Vengeance and the city shootout from Heat.

By the way, one of the captions in one of those trailers lays claim to taking down a target at 500 meters. Poppy cock. A Canadian soldier holds the record: 2,430 meters, or nearly 2 1/2 kilometers. That's our boy!

A sniper is a highly trained marksman who shoots targets from concealed positions or distances exceeding the capabilities of regular personnel. Snipers typically have specialized training and distinct high-precision rifles.

Arkansas Army National Guard soldiers practice sniper marksmanship at their firing range near Baghdad, Iraq, in 2005.

In addition to marksmanship, military snipers are also trained in camouflage, field craft, infiltration, reconnaissance and observation. [1] Snipers are especially effective when deployed within the urban terrain of urban warfare, or jungle terrain of jungle warfare.
